As The Stony Brook School's hymn states, "A school without a vision will not for long endure." Gravitas's vision is to make a world-class college prep education and Christian character formation usually reserved for the few accessible to thousands of students around the globe. In its early stages of growth, exciting opportunities for strategic investment, including naming opportunities and opportunities for global impact are open to our generous supporters. Please consider giving in the following areas:

Annual Fund

The primary purpose of the Annual Fund is to bridge the gap between tuition revenue and the total cost of educating our students. It completes our annual operating budget. Your gift today continues the Gravitas experience for the next generation of leaders who will exhibit Character Before Career.

Financial Aid

As a Christian institution, we believe that our diverse community of students deserves to reap the benefits of a Stony Brook education no matter where they stand socioeconomically. Gravitas's goal is educate students from 100 different countries by the year 2030, to support the children of ministers, missionaries, and those working for humanitarian organizations, and to open doors for talented students facing situations of poverty, war, sickness, abuse, and loss.

In response to the refugee crisis caused by the war in Ukraine Gravitas has committed to fully sponsoring at least ten talented Ukrainian students whose education has been disrupted by the war. We have been working with several philanthropic organizations working in Ukraine and in the countries where Ukrainian refugees are now residing to identify qualified students. We have already enrolled several students for 2022-2023 and will continue to do so as funds become available. To contribute specifically to the Ukraine Student Fund, specify Gravitas Ukraine Student Fund in the "Other" designation when you give.

Naming Opportunities

Starting in the 2022-2023 school year, Gravitas launching two new initiatives that present exciting naming opportunities. Please contact Executive Director, Sean Riley, for more information.

Passion Academies

Passion Academies help students discover passions, develop marketable skills, and make a difference in the world. Within each academy, students will engage in project-based learning, academic competitions, and self-paced courses. Through Passion Academies, our students will start their own businesses, launch experiments to the International Space Station, create blockchain programs, run their own NFT art galleries, win debate competitions, and so much more. Naming opportunities exist for the following Passion Academies:

  • Redemptive Entrepreneurship Academy
  • Ethical Tech Academy
  • Science for the Common Good Academy
  • Faith, Culture, and the Arts Academy
  • Global Leadership Academy

House System

In the Gravitas House System students are assigned to multi-grade houses within which they compete for points throughout the year to earn the House Cup. Houses will have their own crests, colors, mascots, and mottos. Each house will have its own leadership structure and will plan social events. Points will be earned for academic performance, engagement with the character formation program, participation in school events, and winning competitions throughout the year.

Donations will help support the creation of beautiful graphical elements for each house. Ultimately, we want to create a digital twin of the Stony Brook School's campus and then add Gravitas-specific virtual houses to the digital campus. Using a web browser or VR headsets, students will be able to move around and interact in the digital twin campus, attend live social events and lectures, display their NFT art in virtual galleries, do virtual experiments, and maybe even design their own virtual dorm rooms.

Naming opportunities exist for each new house and for the House Cup.

Character Formation App

Gravitas is taking its custom Character Formation Program to the world by creating an interactive mobile app that will leverage over 2000 years of Christian spiritual disciplines, 100 years of boarding school experience working with teens, and recent empirical research from the Harvard Human Flourishing Program to help teenagers grow in virtue and resist temptations. Users will read daily lessons, complete challenges, write journal reflections, and watch engaging videos all on a beautiful interface that encourages positive habit-formation.

Endowment

The earnings, interest, and dividends of The Stony Brook School's Endowment Fund are an important source of revenue, helping to underwrite a percentage of the School's operating and capital budgets each year. Valued at $17.4 million, our Endowment is composed of unrestricted funds (to be used where most needed) as well as funds restricted for specific purposes and programs. The invested principal of the Endowment grows through current gifts of cash and appreciated securities, through deferred and estate gifts, and through reinvestment of earnings to provide for inflation.

The growth of our Endowment is vital to Gravitas's long-term financial stability.
